Fanatec CSL DD compatibility: Episode 2

In this latest episode of the “What is CSL DD?” series, Fanatec presents a video on CSL DD compatibility. If you missed the first episode on the benefits of Direct Drive flywheels, you can find it by following this link.

Fanatec has decided to hit the competition hard by releasing a Direct Drive for the price of a mid-range steering wheel. But since the brand doesn’t benefit from a sales network as grand as Logitech’s or Thrustmaster’s, their distribution strategy relies more and more on the Internet.

So this second episode is once again a way of getting the word out about the brand to the very general public. A target audience long shunned by high-end brands.

Let’s discover this video together and learn more about the compatibility of the Fanatec CSL DD!

And since not everyone speaks English, you’ll find a translation of the video just below!

The Fanatec CSL DD: Part 2

Video translation:

In this episode, we’re going to discover the compatibility of the CSL DD. We’ll see how easy it is to configure. How you can mount it on your cockpit or table. Its compatibility with the rest of the Fanatec ecosystem and its operation on PC and X Box.

Connecting and setting up the CSL DD

We wanted to make installation of the CSL DD as straightforward as possible. On the rear of the base, you’ll find several ports for all your Fanatec peripherals. You can connect your crankset, shifters and handbrake directly to these ports. All you need is a USB cable to plug into your PC or X Box.

Once everything is connected, install the Fanatec driver and update the drivers of all detected peripherals. Once that’s done, you’re ready to hit the road!

For games not yet updated to recognize the CSL DD, you can switch to “compatibility” mode. This way, for example, you’ll be able to take advantage of your steering wheels’ LED functions.

Compatibility mode enables the CSL DD to be recognized as a Clubsport steering wheel base. Direct Drive system performance remains unaffected! So you can feel every bump and curve in the best possible way.

For even better performance, you can use the Booster Kit 180. A power supply that increases motor power from 5 to 8Nm of peak torque.

The whole Fanatec ecosystem at your fingertips

The CSL DD is compatible with the entire Fanatec ecosystem. This includes all the brand’s pedalboard models. You can connect them directly to the rear of the base.

Fanatec gearboxes and handbrakes are also fully compatible, and connect just like the pedals. Dedicated ports are provided on the rear of the base.

And of course, all Fanatec steering wheels are compatible with the CSL DD. From entry-level CSL models to top-of-the-range Podium models.

As with our other bases, you can quickly change your steering wheel at any time. Even during a game session. But you must stop the car or pause the game before disconnecting the wheel. Once the new wheel is attached, you can get back on the road without having to restart the base or the game.

Installing the CSL DD

The CSL DD has multiple installation options. Its casing is equipped with rails into which you can slide screw threads on both sides and bottom. You’ll be able to find the ideal setting for permanent mounting on your cockpit. Simply use M6 screws to secure the steering wheel base to your cockpit.

The rails underneath the base are spaced in the same way as on other steering wheel bases. This means that the majority of cockpits on the market are already compatible with the CSL DD.

As the CSL DD is slightly thinner than the Podium DD1 and DD2, the spacing between the side screw threads remains identical. You can therefore install the base on your side mounting arms.

If you don’t have a cockpit, you can easily install the CSL DD on a table or desk using the optional table clamp.

CSL DD console compatibility

Like all Fanatec bases, the CSL DD is compatible with Windows PCs, and can be compatible with X Box One and X Box Series if used with an X Box-compatible steering wheel.

Our X Box compatible steering wheels include the CSL Elite McLaren GT3, CSL Elite WRS, Clubsport Formula V2.5x and the Clubsport V2 Universal Hub for X Box. These wheels all have an internal chip that makes them compatible with X Box.

When you use one of these wheels, all peripherals connected to the CSL DD are also compatible with your X Box.

Playstation compatibility requires a Playstation-compatible wheel base. The CSL DD is not compatible with Playstation consoles. We have a Playstation-compatible product in development, and more information on these products will be available soon.

More to come very soon!
