What is Rennsport?

Rennsport is billed as a free-to-play automotive simulation designed primarily for E-Sports. Its ambition is to become THE professional platform for simracing competitions. The community aspect is a priority for the team, as is the ease with which mods can be created and “virtual ownership”.

The game has been developed over the past 2 years by the German Competition Company team. If you’ve never heard of them, that’s normal, as Rennsport marks their debut in the world of simracing.

But the team’s youth doesn’t dampen its ambition. Their promise is to design an ultra-realistic PC simulation that will be accessible in closed beta from summer 2022. This closed beta will be followed by a public beta in spring 2023. Hopefully, we’ll have the chance to get our hands on the wheel in just a few months’ time!

Graphically, Rennsport promises us wonders

Initially, the development studio chose Unreal Engine 4 to animate the simulation. But a few months later, the team decided to get down to business with Unreal Engine 5. And let’s face it, from the looks of the trailer, it’s going to be one hell of a ride!

Although the Porsche 911 GT3R is the only one featured in the trailer, we already know the second vehicle developed:

La simulation Rennsport proposera entre autres la BMW M4 GT3

You’ll recognize the BMW M4 GT3, of course! But for the moment, unfortunately, there’s no other clue as to the vehicles available. As for the circuits, there’s no info either, apart from a screenshot of HockenheimRing.

Kits for modders

Competition Company has the very good idea of offering kits for the modding community. Excellent news for those who know how intolerant Unreal Engine 4 was of modding. With tools like these, Rennsport has a chance of creating a future worthy of Assetto Corsa I!

NEWS for May 25, 2022: Rennsport ready to show us some content!

In a Tweeter post, Rennsport announces that it has selected 100 personalities from the world of simracing. The aim? Present its advances in an online event from May 27 to 29, 2022.

The lucky 100 will have the chance to learn more about the game’s mechanics and put their questions directly to the developers. They’ll even have the opportunity to test the game and give us their feedback and opinions. In the meantime, the team has even shared the very first gameplay from the game on its YouTube channel.

My opinion on the Rennsport announcement

As you can imagine, like all simracing enthusiasts, I can’t wait to get my hands on Rennsport. A free-to-play simulation that promises insane graphics and driving precision at the very top of its game, it’s bound to make an impression.

After all, the world of simracing today is ruled by aging titles. Assetto Corsa, iRacing, rFactor 2… These simulations based on old technologies have yet to find a real competitor. As for Assetto Corsa Competizione, it’s certainly more recent, graphically very good, but focused solely on GT3 and GT4. This makes it less interesting for those looking for variety in vehicles and circuits.

The Competition Company studio also had the intelligence to design the game in partnership with ESL Gaming. As soon as it’s released, it will be powered by their official E-Sport platform. Rennsport will also be equipped with professional broadcasting tools and solutions for easy sharing of video clips.

Rennsport has been developed from the ground up using completely new technologies, so it’s sure to be a breath of fresh air!

However, there are still a few aspects that question or even worry me (OK, the word is a bit strong).

Vehicle categories

For a while, everyone was a little worried about the fact that the vehicles featured were GT3s. Was Rennsport planning to position itself on the same type of content as Assetto Corsa Competizione?

Thanks to the presentation weekend held in Germany from May 27 to 29, we know that this won’t be the case.

Personally, I’m very active in the Formula, LMP1 and historic vehicle categories. And I confess I’m rather disappointed to see only new titles that completely ignore these vehicles.

The principle of digital ownership

If Rennsport’s official website is to be believed, each driver will be able to create his or her own garage of unique vehicles, circuits and other items (perhaps suits, cases and liveries?). These virtual goods will be the property of the player, who will be able to sell them on the marketplaces of his choice.

Doesn’t that sound like NFT to you?

Let me be quite clear: I have no problem with NFTs. It’s a system that’s going to develop very quickly and very strongly, that’s for sure. The world of video games will never be the same again. My only fear in this respect is that the modding community will go crazy and offer vehicles or circuits at mind-boggling prices, at least in the first few months.

How to sign up for the Rennsport closed beta

Une nouvelle simulation auto : Rennsport !

Despite these few points of detail, which deserve to be clarified in the coming months by the development studio, I’m more than delighted to see a newcomer to the world of simracing.

And if, like me, you want to put all your chances on your side to join the closed beta this summer, click on the button just below to sign up for the Rennsport newsletter 🙂

Of course, we’ll be keeping a very close eye on any announcements concerning Rennsport, and we’ll update this article as the news comes in.

I look forward to reading your comments. What do you think of this announcement? Will you be among the first beta testers? What do you think of this virtual property system?

Anyway, we’ll be in touch to discuss it below. And while you’re waiting to get your hands on it, you can also find the best simulations of the year by following this link😉
