The Revosim RS Pure steering wheel has just been unveiled to simracers, with the opening of pre-orders for their products and bundles. We had been closely following the creation of this model by visiting the offices of Nacon (Revosim’s parent company) a few months ago, which enabled me to test their hardware on two occasions last April and May.Now it‘s time to find out all about this new Direct Drive ecosystem!
Pre-orders are now open
Background Revosim by Nacon: uh, who’s that again?
Creating the Revosim RS Pure range of simracing products from scratch is far from simple. And yet that’s the gamble Nacon took when it launched the Revosim brand and invested heavily enough to bring the project to fruition. But to say that the brand started from scratch is not entirely true. After all, Nacon also owns the KT Racing game development studio. They’re used to seeing gear come and go! And they have the advantage of knowing the inner workings of force feedback communications between games and bases/kites perfectly well.
To launch this range, Revosim decided to start with the basics: a Load Cell pedalboard, a 9Nm Direct Drive base and a Hub equipped with a replaceable steering wheel. All with an NRG-style QR for simplicity and efficiency. In-house software that’s both complete and practical. And last but not least, even a smartphone app that will turn your phone into a Dashboard if need be.
In April 2024, I had the opportunity to discover prototype versions of their ecosystem and to interview Sebastien Waxin, “Head of Racing”, or rather, the man in charge of the project. I’ll let you (re)discover what he had to say on the subject at the time:
The steering wheel supplied with the Revosim RS Pure Bundle
Let’s continue with their first round steering wheel. Or should I say, their Hub equipped with a round hoop. Yes, it’s actually a Hub with a 6x70mm center distance, on which you can install at least one other Formula-type hoop. The Hub is “hollowed out” to fit the steering wheel spokes and give a smooth, “well-integrated” appearance. As a result, only Revosim models can be installed on this model.
Diameter of round hoop | 30cm, screwed onto the Hub to replace it with future Revosim models. |
Materials | Aluminum, plastic |
Grips | Stitched imitation leather. |
Vibration | No |
Paddles | 2 metal shift paddles (non-magnetic) |
Noise when using paddles | TBD |
Customizable buttons | 12 buttons with customizable inserts, 1 2-position encoder, 1 7-position switch |
LED display | 9 lap-count LEDs, 4 LEDs display selected mode |
Display | No |
Quick Release | NRG-type Quick Release |
Base compatibility | RevoSim |
The steering wheel hoop currently available is a 30cm-diameter round model in imitation leather with topstitching on the inside of the wheel and stitched leather on the grips. I’ll tell you more about the Formula-style Add-On that will be released shortly, as soon as I get the info!
The buttons can be customized with caps featuring different colors and inscriptions. And 9 LEDs keep track of your lap count. The 4 LEDs at the bottom of the steering wheel indicate which mode is active on the wheel. But I’ll explain all that in detail in the test.
Discover the Direct Drive RS Pure base
The base offers a peak torque of 9Nm, but for the moment I haven’t yet received all the technical data to really go into performance details.
From the outset, it’s easy to understand where the inspiration comes from. The aluminum case recalls the design of the Fanatec CSL DD/GT DD Pro with its heat-dissipating vents, but in a more (r)refined version. The inspiration doesn’t stop there, either, as the chassis-mounted installation system is also taken from Fanatec models. The reason? Quite simply, it’s the quickest and most practical system to date. You have rails under the base and on its sides, into which T-bolts are inserted.
A metaltable clamp is also supplied in the box, enabling the base to be installed on a tabletop up to 7cm thick. The clamp also allows the base to be tilted up to 15° to suit your riding position.
Compatibility | PC (console compatibility will come later) |
Dimensions | TBD |
Motor | Direct Drive – Brushless Servo Motor RevoSim |
Torque | Peak: 9Nm Constant : TBD Slew Rate : TBD |
Encoder | 21 bits (2,097,152 points per wheel revolution) |
Turning amplitude | TBD Defined by software |
Connections | USB-C port for PC connection. 3 RJ12 ports for connecting products from the Revosim ecosystem. Power supply socket. |
Wheel attachment mode | NRG-type Quick Release |
Under the hood, there’s a lot of work to be done. Rather than simply copying and pasting a competitor’s architecture, RevoSim has its own Brushless Servo Motor. Having already had it in my hands on several occasions, I’ve noticed that it holds its own in terms of reactivity , precision and fluidity. It remains to be seen what improvements will have been made to the software control when the final model is tested, as this was the point on which the team was still working at the time of my last rides.
As far as the encoder is concerned, RevoSim initially intended to use a resolution equivalent to that of its competitors, before finally switching to a larger 21-bit model, which gave them a noticeable improvement in precision. To be continued!
Software, phone support and in-house app!
On the software side, Revosim has worked hard to bring itself up to scratch, at least that’s what I felt the first time I saw the software dedicated to force feedback settings. It’s clear, simple enough and allows you to adjust everything quickly. That’s it! I’ll tell you all about it in detail during the full test.
A smartphone app is also available. It communicates via Blutooth with your base unit and allows you to both touch the settings and use your smartphone as a dashboard. Now, you might say that you could also use SimHub to do this, but let’s face it, for novice gamers, this app will at least offer something plug and play.
But how do you install the phone on the base, you ask? It’s simple: Revosim supplies a phone holder with the base, which slides into the rail on top of the motor. But you can also screw it directly onto a chassis via the hole provided.
The Revosim Pure Load Cell pedalset
And finally, the pedalset. We’ve made it a point of honor to place it a good notch above the competition at the same price. I’ll let you have a look at the details:
Materials | Aluminum, steel |
Pedals | 2 pedals (clutch option coming soon) |
Gas pedal | Spring-loaded Magnetic Hall sensor NC resolution |
Brake | Movement with interchangeable elastomers Rubber pads supplied : 20 Shore A – 3 blue erasers TBD Shore A – 3 yellow erasers 80 Shore A – 3 red rubbers Load Cell with 100Kg capacity |
Vibrations | No |
Connections | RJ45 to base or USB to PC |
At first glance, the overall construction is familiar territory! The architecture and materials are very reminiscent of those found on entry-level Fanatec, Moza or Thrustmaster pedalboards, for example. But make no mistake: in terms of available settings, it’s something else!
The gas pedal is quite simple, with a spring-loaded movement and HALL sensor, angle and stop adjustment. The brake, on the other hand, features an elastomer movement that can be changed to harden or soften the movement.
The pedalset comes with 3 sets of soft/medium/hard rubber, ranging in hardness from 20 Shore A to 80 Shore A. And I’ll still be able to spend an hour mixing the rubbers together to find my very own feel… A kit with other rubber compounds and possibly springs should follow, but that’s yet to be confirmed.
The brake sensor is a Load Cell (sensor of the force applied to the brake) with a capacity of 100Kg. And we’ll be able to modulate our riding position with ease, thanks to the 7 available pedal angles ranging from 90° (vertical pedal) to 60° for use under a desk or on a sofa.
The height-adjustable brake pads are directly inspired by what we’ve seen on the real GT3 and GT4, which is no coincidence, but I’ll tell you all about it one of these days on live twitch if you’re interested 😉
A clutch pedal will arrive shortly to complete the beast. “We can also expect to see a shifter and handbrake in 2025, but be patient!
Revosim Pure gear availability date
As I said at the start of this article, pre-orders are now open. But deliveries and “direct” purchases will start on June 12, 2025. In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for new information, and I’ll let you know more as soon as it comes in.
The test will be coming soon!
As you’d expect, we’ll be producing a full review of the Revosim Pure as soon as possible to give you a clear, uncompromising opinion of the bundle. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to ask us any questions you may have
